Building Place-Based Climate Educators To make India’s 100 Climate Role Model Schools with the vision of “Instilling lifelong readiness to learn.”
The Educator Incubation is a two-year program designed to embed place-based learning where students are deeply connected to their places, people, ecosystems, weather, climate, and landscapes.
Why Invest in Educators
While several organisations create strong content and tools, educators often lack structured support to:
Contextualise curriculum to their surroundings
Facilitate experiential and inquiry-led learning
Guide students from observation to action
This incubation builds educator capacity so they can independently design and lead place-based learning within their own school ecosystems.
What the Incubation Is
A practice-led educator incubation program, built on years of Learn Around Nature (LAN) implementation, now codified into a scalable place-based learning model.
Educators learn to:
Translate academic concepts into local contexts
Lead students through inquiry, discovery, and projects
Connect personal, community, and systemic climate action
Who the Program Is For :
Middle school educators (Grades 6–9)
Science and Social Science teachers
Schools and after-school learning spaces
Each participating school nominates three educators, ensuring continuity and integration within the institution.
The Two-Year Journey
Year 1: Practice & Facilitation
→ Facilitating place-based learning using Thicket Tales–designed curriculum
→ 5-day immersive summer training and shadow camp
→ Monthly learning cycles
→ Classroom visits with on-ground feedback
→ Mid-year reflection meet
→ First year-end learning showcase
→ Same student cohort throughout the year
→ 80–100 minutes of place-based sessions per week
→ ~30 sessions across the academic year
Year 1: Practice & Facilitation
→ Designing own place-based lesson plans
→ Independent implementation with mentoring support
→ Cross-school sharing and peer learning
→ Final learning showcase
→ Educators lead place-based learning autonomously within their schools
Stipend & Program Support
→ Facilitation stipend for eligible educators during Year 1.
→ Small grants to support learning showcases.
→ Project-based grants in Year 2 for deeper implementation and innovation.
